A car and a big rig collided head-on early Thursday morning on state Highway 4 in Contra Costa County killing the only occupant in the car, California Highway Patrol officials said.
The collision was reported to the CHP at 5:54 a.m. east of Balfour Road.
The driver of a silver Toyota Corolla was traveling east on Highway 4 when the Toyota crossed into the westbound lane and collided head-on with an International big rig.
The person in the Toyota died at the scene while the driver of the truck escaped injury.
