A man investigators believe is connected to Sunday’s mass shooting in Sacramento was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and illegal possession of a firearm.
Sacramento police officials said they identified Dandrae Martin, 26, “as a related suspect” and that detectives and SWAT officers served search warrants at three homes in the area near 10th and K streets where the shooting took place, according to a news release posted Monday on the department’s website.
During their search, officers found at least one handgun in the area and at least one other handgun was found at the shooting scene, according to the release.
It’s still unclear what lead to the shooting, which left six dead and 12 others injured at about 2 a.m. Sunday, but police are investigating the possibility that some kind of altercation broke out just before shots were fired.
The victims appear to have been part of a large crowd that had gathered in the area, which is about a block from the state Capitol and features many office buildings, shops, restaurants and bars.
Investigators found more than 100 shell casings at the scene and said at least three buildings and three vehicles were also hit by gunfire.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office identified the victims as Joshua Hoye-Lucchesi, 32, of Salinas; Johntaya Alexander, 21, of Elk Grove; Melinda Davis, 57; Sergio Harris, 38, of North Highlands; Yamile Martinez-Andrade, 21, of Selma; and Devazia Turner, 29, Carmichael.
