Bomb-making materials prompt evacuation during arrest of Pleasant Hill vandalism suspect

Police in Pleasant Hill and Clayton said on Saturday that they have identified a vandalism suspect that was also found with bomb-making materials and explosive devices.

The suspect, a 27-year-old male, was located after an “active” investigation into a series of vandalisms in both Pleasant Hill and Clayton, police said.

The investigation led to a warrant to search the man’s residence on Friday in the 300 block of Longbrook Way. The Pleasant Hill Police were assisted by the Walnut Creek Police Department Bomb Squad.

Officers located explosive materials and an explosive device, and “numerous” residents were evacuated from the area.

At this point, police say that Contra Costa County Hazmat along with ConFire Hazmat and the FBI responded to assist.

The suspect was arrested without incident and booked into the county jail, police said.
