Justin Peoples was found lying on the floor with a gunshot wound to his upper body when police responded to the shooting shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday at a Chevron station in the 3700 block of North Tracy Boulevard.
Peoples, 30, was taken to San Joaquin General Hospital in critical condition and died there two hours later, Tracy police said in a news release on Wednesday.
Before Peoples was shot, there had been a confrontation at the Chevron station, police said.
Investigators identified Christina Lyn Garner, 42, of Manteca, and Jeremy Wayne Jones, 49, of Stockton, as suspects in the shooting.
The pair were arrested about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday after search and arrest warrants were served at a home in the 1500 block of De Ovan Avenue, near University of the Pacific in Stockton.
Jones and Garner were taken into custody without incident and booked into San Joaquin County Jail. Police did not release any information about what led to the confrontation and shooting.
