Thief comes up empty-handed after using stolen tractor to remove ATM

Someone used a stolen tractor to remove a standalone ATM from a bank in Brentwood early Friday morning, according to police.

Officers responded around 4:40 a.m. to an alarm at the Wells Fargo bank at 2540 Sand Creek Road, with witnesses reporting the ATM was removed from in front of the bank, causing significant damage to the building, police said.

Investigators determined the tractor had been stolen from a nearby construction site and it was found abandoned in an open field at the dead-end of Sand Creek Road west of state Highway 4. The ATM vault was found about 100 yards west of the bank and was intact with no money removed from it, according to police.

Brentwood police have not made an arrest or released any suspect information in the case and are asking anyone with information to call the department at (925) 809-7911.
