Caltrain on Friday is continuing to run modified schedules following a collision with on-track equipment in San Bruno on Thursday that injured 13 people, including two agency employees.
The train, which caught fire following the collision around 10:40 a.m. Thursday near Scott Street, remained on the tracks Friday morning as the National Transportation Safety Board investigates. Caltrain officials said once the NTSB releases custody of the site, work will begin to remove the train, repair the tracks and restore normal service.
Caltrain officials initially said no one was hurt in the collision but later clarified 13 people were injured, though none of the injuries are considered life-threatening.
A southbound train struck a vehicle that was part of Caltrain’s track electrification work. The agency said that project, which will allow it to convert from diesel-hauled trains to electric ones in the coming years, has been temporarily suspended while safety protocols are reviewed.
Caltrain is running a modified 69-train schedule Friday, with SamTrans bus shuttles taking passengers between the South San Francisco and Millbrae stations. BART is also providing free service for riders transferring at their Millbrae station.
