Caltrain catches fire after striking vehicle in San Bruno

A Caltrain caught fire after striking a vehicle in San Bruno on Thursday morning, sending the vehicle’s driver to the hospital but no one aboard the train was hurt, according to the transit agency.

Southbound train No. 506 heading from San Francisco to San Jose struck a vehicle that Caltrain spokesman Dan Lieberman described as “on-track equipment” at 10:38 a.m. in the area of Scott Street in San Bruno.

The driver of the vehicle was taken to a hospital and an update on their condition was not immediately available.

The train was evacuated and no injuries were reported among people on board, Lieberman said.

Fire crews responded and extinguished the fire, but trains were being held in both directions as of about 11:30 a.m. because of the emergency response.
