Catalytic converter theft escalates into shootout after chase

A suspected catalytic converter theft in Concord early Thursday morning turned into a shootout that damaged the victim’s vehicle but resulted in no injuries.

Concord police said in a news release that a resident of north Concord encountered “several suspects attempting to steal the catalytic converter from his car.”

The suspects fled with the vehicle owner in pursuit, which is when police say one of the suspects opened fire at the victim, striking his car.

“Officers arrived and chased the suspect car, but the suspects were able to get away. The case is under investigation,” police said in a statement.

Anyone with information regarding this case can contact Concord police Detective Kevin Giacoletto at (925) 671-3040.
