Suspect in triple stabbing killed by car after running onto freeway

A suspect in a triple stabbing in San Jose died after running onto state Highway 85 and being struck by a vehicle early Wednesday morning, authorities said.

The triple stabbing was reported at 2:09 a.m. at a home in the 2100 block of Tehama Avenue. The three adult victims were taken to hospitals and are all expected to survive, according to San Jose police.

Then shortly before 4:45 a.m., a fatal collision was reported on northbound Highway 85 just south of the De Anza Boulevard off-ramp. California Highway Patrol officials said a pedestrian was reportedly trying to get hit by a vehicle.

San Jose police said later Wednesday morning that the pedestrian fatally struck on the highway was the suspect in the stabbing. The person’s name has not yet been released.

The collision prompted the shutdown of all northbound lanes on Highway 85. The lanes reopened as of shortly before 8 a.m. after investigators cleared the scene, according to the CHP.
