Possible bacterial outbreak limits services at Stockton Animal Shelter

The Stockton Animal Shelter will not be accepting any dogs through at least Saturday due to an investigation of a possible bacterial outbreak in the shelter.

The shelter said not taking in dogs will allow them to work with a testing lab to determine if there is a bacterial outbreak and the steps needed to fix the problem.

The shelter said in a statement:

Out of abundance of caution, we will be pausing the intake of healthy, stray and confined dogs,”

Dogs currently housed at the shelter have been given a preventative antibiotic treatment.

Medicine given to the animals will make them available for immediate and safe adoption, according to the shelter.

The shelter has asked the community to use social media recourses to help find owners for any stray dogs located and to consider adopting or fostering an animal because the shelter is almost near capacity.

All adoption fees are being waived until further notice.
