The California Highway Patrol reported three separate fatal collisions Saturday night in the Bay Area, including two fatal crashes one minute apart early Sunday in Milpitas and San Jose.
The first was reported at 1:09 a.m. on Interstate Highway 880 in Milpitas, when a pedestrian reportedly jumped in front of a tractor-trailer in the southbound lanes just south of the off-ramp of Tasman Drive, also known as Great Mall Parkway.
The second was reported one minute later and about five miles south in San Jose involving multiple vehicles on U.S. Highway 101 just north of the Trimble Road on-ramp.
The CHP issued a SigAlert at 1:31 a.m., closing all northbound lanes of the highway with no estimate of when it will reopen.
The fatal collision was reported on eastbound Interstate Highway 580 in Dublin, where the CHP responded to a 2:35 a.m. report of a vehicle fully engulfed in flames and multiple vehicles involved. The crash closed the left four lanes of the roadway early Sunday under the overpass of Interstate Highway 680.
The CHP issued a SigAlert at 2:55 a.m., closing the left four eastbound lanes of the roadway with no estimated time of reopening and called for the coroner 10 minutes later.
