Santa Rosa selects next city manager following nationwide search

A deputy city manager in Stockton was announced Friday as Santa Rosa’s new city manager pending a vote by the City Council next month.

Maraskeshia Smith is set to start in the position on Jan. 3 and will be Santa Rosa’s first African American city manager.

Previous City Manager Sean McGlynn left from the role earlier this year to take a similar position with the city of Escondido in Southern California and Jeff Kolin has been serving as interim city manager.

Before working in Stockton, Smith was an assistant city administrator in Oakland and a public works director in Cincinnati, city officials said. She was selected following a nationwide recruitment effort.

In a statement, Mayor Chris Rogers said:

“I am very excited for Ms. Smith to be Santa Rosa’s new city manager. Not only is she exceptionally qualified, but she also has a proven track record of lifting others up through mentorship and public service. Ms. Smith will be a tremendous addition to our city and to our community.”
