The Great Mall in Milpitas is under lockdown with a heavy police presence.
A Milpitas Police Department representative told SFBay at 6:52 p.m. Friday that officers had been at the scene since approximately 5:20 p.m. There were initial reports of a shooting, though the exact nature of the incident has yet to be confirmed.
Police said they received “numerous” calls regarding a threat at the shopping center on Great Mall Drive.
The investigation is ongoing and further details will be shared as information becomes available.
VTA has suspended light rail service in the area until further notice.
Update: Police said via Twitter at 6:58 p.m. that an altercation was reported inside the Burlington Coat Factory where someone allegedly brandished a knife. A shooting was reported shortly after. Police are searching the entire facility “out of an abundance of caution” but have not located any suspects or victims.
