Person on tracks shuts down Powell Street station, causes major BART delays

BART is reporting a person on the tracks at the Powell Street station in San Francisco on Monday afternoon, resulting in major delays systemwide.

The station is closed and SF Muni is providing bus service for BART riders affected, officials said. East Bay-bound passengers can also board mutual aid AC Transit buses at the Salesforce Transit Center.

In an alert sent out about 3:30 p.m., BART said there were major delays developing at San Francisco stations in the SFO, Millbrae, Daly City and East Bay directions due to the incident.

Trains are still traveling to the East Bay from Embarcadero and Montgomery stations, BART officials said on social media.

One person asked on Twitter shortly after 4 p.m. if BART officials had any sense when the issue would be cleared up, to which the BART spokesperson replied, “No.”

No other information was immediately available.
