Responding firefighter suffers injuries in vehicle rollover

A firefighter with the East Contra Costa Fire Protection District received minor injuries Tuesday in a rollover crash that happened while crews were responding to a fire in Oakley.

Multiple fire companies responded to the 1:28 p.m. report of a fire in the 2400 block of East Cypress Road. On the way to the fire, one of the vehicles overturned on Cypress Road just east of O’Hara Avenue, according to a district news release.

Fellow fire crews provided care to their colleague, who was transported to a hospital, where he was treated and released. At the scene of the fire, crews extinguished a fire that burned two abandoned buildings and a half-acre of trash and grass.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
