Seaside officer convicted in hit-and-run, property damage collision

A Seaside police officer has been convicted of hit-and-run causing property damage and was sentenced to 10 days in jail and a year of probation for an April crash in Monterey while he was off-duty, prosecutors said Thursday.

Alex Sakhrani on April 12 drove a white Toyota Tundra truck over the curb of Mar Vista Drive, driving through landscaping and into a nearby driveway before hitting a wall, according to the Monterey County District Attorney’s Office.

A security camera captured the crash and the Tundra then going into reverse and fleeing the scene. Investigators determined the truck was registered to Sakhrani, who admitted to driving it at the time of the crash, prosecutors said.

Monterey County Superior Court Judge Elisabeth Mineta sentenced him to the brief jail term and year of probation, as well as to pay outstanding restitution and prohibited him from consuming alcohol during the probation period.
