San Francisco man arrested in connection with Portola District murder

San Francisco police said officers on Wednesday arrested a suspect wanted in connection with a shooting that killed a man last week in the city’s Portola District.

The shooting happened on the morning of Aug. 16 in the 2400 block of San Bruno Avenue.

At the scene, officers found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound. He was taken to a hospital, where he died a short a while later, police said. The city’s Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as 33-year-old San Francisco resident Lorenzo Gaines.

Although the suspect fled before officers arrived, investigators were later able to identify him as a 20-year-old San Francisco resident.

After obtaining a warrant for the suspect’s arrest, officers on Wednesday located Reid in the 5800 block of Horton Street in Emeryville and arrested him on suspicion of murder.

He has been booked into the San Francisco County Jail and is being held without bail, according to jail records.
