Tomatoes, classic cars abound at this weekend’s Fairfield festival

If you’re looking for a Better Boy or an Early Girl or have a desire to shake a Moneymaker, the 29th Annual Tomato and Vine Festival in Fairfield might be just the thing this weekend.

These and around 30 other varieties of tomato, including California-grown Heirloom Tomatoes, can be sampled for free at the festival in downtown Fairfield on Texas Street between Taylor Street and Union Avenue Saturday and Sunday.

Running Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m., the annual festival should be a welcome outdoor event for folks eager to get out now that the lockdown has ended

Cars like the vintage Chevy Bel Air will be on display in the classic car show Sunday. The city is also promising a tomato-eating contest, live entertainment on two stages, children’s activities and two beer and wine gardens featuring local wines.

The festival celebrates Fairfield’s beginnings when tomatoes were the leading cash crop in Solano County 29 years ago.
