Active shooter false alarm puts Treasure Island residents on edge

The Treasure Island community was on edge Wednesday after someone apparently pushed a button alerting authorities to a potential active shooter situation. San Francisco police said the scene was cleared with no evidence of a threat.

Multiple law enforcement agencies quickly descended on the island.

Officers responded to a mixed-use building on the 300 block of Avenue H around 11:21 a.m. According to department spokesperson Officer Robert Rueca, no injuries or reports of shots fired were confirmed. Instead, Rueca said, someone had triggered an alarm from inside the building that immediately transmits to police without need for human interaction.

He did not identify who activated the alarm or explain why, but added that police were continuing to speak to people nearby.
