Police catch one of two vehicle burglary suspects after foot chase

A 27-year-old Oakland man was arrested and a second suspect remains at large after they allegedly smashed vehicle windows at an apartment complex in Petaluma to steal property, police said Tuesday.

Officers had responded at 5:05 a.m. Sunday to a report of a vehicle burglary in progress in the area of the Azure Apartment Homes at Technology Lane and Casa Grande Road and saw the 27-year-old running away, according to police.

A foot chase ensued for about two blocks until an officer took the man into custody. The second suspect fled in a silver Honda Odyssey van and has not been found as of Tuesday.

Officers found the suspects had shattered the windows of at least two vehicles and took items from inside them. The 27-year-old suspect was booked into Sonoma County Jail on suspicion of vehicle burglary and resisting arrest, police said.
