Muni stabbing suspect arrested after June 10 attack

San Francisco police have arrested a man they allege stabbed a passenger aboard a Muni bus last month, authorities said Tuesday.

Police arrested 32-year-old San Francisco resident Mario Xavier Hills Saturday near the intersection of Steiner and McAllister for the alleged stabbing. An off-duty officer first spotted the suspect and recognized Hills from the crime bulletin and contacted other officers. Authorities said they found a knife while gathering evidence.

The stabbing took place June 10 around 4:30 p.m. near Steiner and Green streets. Police located a 31-year-old male victim on the bus with stab wounds. The victim told officers he was sitting on the bus when the man sitting next to him stood up and stabbed him several times.

Police said the victim did not know or have prior interactions with the suspect. The victim was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Hills was booked at county jail for assault with a deadly weapon, battery resulting in serious bodily injury and battery of a mass transit passenger.

Police last week released images of the suspect seeking the public’s help in locating him.
