The West Contra Costa Unified School District board approved a budget Wednesday, June 10, 2020 that eliminates contracts with police agencies for school resource officers and routes budget toward African American student services. John F. Kennedy High School in Richmond, Calif. is among the district campuses that would be impacted by the new direction.
Officials with the West Contra Costa Unified School District said Monday they reached a tentative agreement with United Teachers of Richmond for the coming school year.
District officials said the agreement lowers class sizes at all levels, increases the number of counselors, including those focused on college and career, and provides additional support for special education students.
The agreement still needs to be ratified by the union members before it is considered by the board of trustees.
