Police in San Francisco arrested a man after he allegedly stabbed an elderly Asian woman several times in an unprovoked attack on Wednesday morning in the city’s downtown area.
According to police, the stabbing happened around 10:15 a.m. in the 800 block of Post Street.
Officers found the 94-year-old woman with several stab wounds. She was hospitalized and is expected to survive, police said.
After a preliminary investigation, officers identified the suspect as 35-year-old Daniel Cauich. Officers were able to arrest Cauich shortly after in the 1300 block of Clay Street.
Officers were also able to recover the knife they believed was used in the stabbing.
Cauich was booked into jail on suspicion of attempted homicide, elder abuse, battery and probation violation, among other offenses.
Investigators are now looking into whether race played a factor in the unprovoked attack, according to police.
