Department mourns fallen San Francisco firefighter who died after airport blaze

A firefighter with the San Francisco Fire Department a little more than a week ago after battling a blaze at a San Francisco International Airport parking structure, fire officials said.

Firefighter Christopher Yock died on June 8 at his home after returning from the scene of an early morning fire at the airport that involved six vehicles.

Fire officials said in a statement:

“Unfortunately, after returning home from the incident, he suffered a medical emergency and passed away. … Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones, especially his teenage son.”

Yock had worked for the department since 2000, serving at both fire Station 10 in the city’s Richmond District and Truck 48, which serves the airport, fire officials said.

The department is set to hold a vigil in Yock’s memory on Thursday, followed by a celebration of life ceremony on Friday.
