Contra Costa County rolls out mobile vaccine van for groups of five or more

Contra Costa County businesses and organizations can now request a vaccine van to roll up and administer Covid-19 vaccinations on site.

Beginning Monday, Contra Costa Health Services is accepting requests for free vaccination clinics at locations where five or more people are ready to receive a vaccine dose. Health officials said in a media release Monday that the mobile vaccination clinics will arrive within one week of requests and will administer doses to an unlimited number of people in each visit.

Clinics will operate on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. at locations within county limits, though vaccine recipients are not required to live in Contra Costa County. Vaccine van visits can be requested by completing an online form.

The new mobile service launched a day ahead of the state’s official reopening. On Tuesday, California will ditch the Blueprint for a Safer Economy color-tiered system, including capacity limits and physical distancing requirements that have been in place for most of the past 15 months.

Dr. Ori Tzvieli, the county’s deputy health officer, said in Monday’s media release:

“The state pandemic health orders that have affected businesses, public spaces and community activities for more than a year are changing on June 15 – especially for people who are fully vaccinated. If you do not already have the best protection available against COVID-19, now is the time to get a vaccine. We will come to you.”

The county is also offering vaccine clinics this week at Dougherty Valley High, Edna Hill Middle, Helms Middle, Ygnacio Valley High, Pinole Valley High and Pittsburg High schools. While appointments are not necessary, time slots can be reserved by calling 1-844-829-2626 or by visiting the county’s online vaccine information page.

As of Monday afternoon, Contra Costa County has fully vaccinated 69.4 percent of the population aged 12 and older.
