Update: Crews contain 45-acre brush fire near Benicia

A brush fire burned 45 acres in southern Solano County before crews reached containment Saturday afternoon.

The northerly winds carried smoke toward the Benicia bridge, according to the National Weather Service.

Cal Fire responded to a blaze erupted around 10:30 a.m. Saturday near Lopes Road between Cordelia and Benicia. A Cal Fire Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit representative told SFBay that the burn area had reached 45 acres by 12:44 p.m.

Aerial water strikes were employed and crews from a total of eight fire agencies helped the containment effort, according to the Solano County Office of Emergency Services.

No damaged structures or injuries were reported. Crews will remain at the scene to tend to hot spots.

Much of the North and East Bay are under a Red Flag Warning through Monday evening due to the extreme drought conditions, temperatures forecast to hit nearly 90 and high wind gusts expected after sundown.
