Fairfield high school football player succumbs to gunshot injuries

A 17-year-old Vanden High School football player who was shot earlier this month in Fairfield has died from his injuries, police said Tuesday.

Daniel Dejon Hughes, of Fairfield, was shot April 4 in the 1000 block of Broadway. He was hospitalized after the shooting with life-threatening injuries and died on Sunday, police said.

After the shooting, 18-year-old Fairfield resident James Williams was booked into Solano County Jail after turning himself in, police said.

The Fairfield police investigation bureau is now investigating the case as a homicide and is working with the Solano County District Attorney’s Office on charges.
