Recent shootings push Oakland’s 2021 homicide count to 41

A male victim was shot and killed Sunday night in East Oakland, the latest among dozens of homicides this year in the city, police said.

Dispatchers received reports at 8:52 p.m. Sunday of a shooting in the 1900 block of 90th Avenue. Officers located the victim suffering from a gunshot wound, according to police.

The victim was treated by firefighters and paramedics but died, police said.

Last week, a person was shot and killed near Edes Avenue and Nevada Street in East Oakland. Dispatchers received a call at 7:47 a.m. Thursday about a person suffering from a gunshot wound.

Officers responded and located the victim, who died there despite medical care from paramedics and firefighters.

Forty-one people have been killed in homicides in Oakland this year, more than three times the number through the same period last year, according to police data.
