Hiker discovers body of teen reported missing in Oakland

Tatiana Sunshine Dugger, 19, was reported missing in Oakland on Jan. 9. Her body was discovered last week by a hiker in Siskiyou County.

According to a statement released by Butte County Sheriff’s Office, authorities used an ANDE Rapid DNA machine to identify the deceased female as Dugger Friday morning.

Family reported her as missing in East Oakland, where she’d been staying in a hotel. Detectives determined she was last living in Los Angeles after moving from Butte County, where her family resides, about three months prior. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office assumed jurisdiction of the search effort on Jan. 13.

The search for the Oroville native ended tragically when the hiker found Dugger in a remote location on U.S. Forest Service land near U.S. Route 97 and Juniper Terrace, about 8 miles northeast of Weed.

A GoFundMe drive has been established to help pay for funeral costs. Nearly $4,000 of the $20,000 goal had been raised as of late Saturday afternoon.
