Supes extend eviction protection for Contra Costa small business tenants

The Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a measure Tuesday to continue through June 30 the temporary prohibition on evictions of some small business commercial tenants financially impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The decision follows the March 4 decision by the governor extending the authority of local jurisdictions to suspend the evictions of commercial tenants for the non-payment of rent if the non-payment was a result of the pandemic.

The county ordinance also prohibits landlords from charging late fees to small business and non-profit organization tenants, and extends to Aug. 31, 2021, the grace period to pay back rent.

The ordinance is available online.
