Fremont police report ‘very active scene’ in officer-involved shooting incident

A Fremont police officer was involved in a shooting Wednesday afternoon.

According to a Fremont Police Department Twitter message posted at 3:16 p.m., the incident occurred in the area of Ardenwood Boulevard and eastbound Highway 84, near the border of Newark.

While few details were initially provided, officials said further information would be forthcoming. Investigation is currently underway.

Major surrounding roadways have been closed and the public has been asked to avoid the vicinity.
