Oakland city officials are seeking public input on improving public safety through the Reimagining Public Safety Task Force, which was created amid efforts to defund the Police Department.
The task force on April 20 will recommend to the City Council ways to address what’s contributing to a recent rise in violent crime in Oakland. The recommendations may influence how money is allocated in the city budget.
Residents can provide input by completing an online survey by Monday, calling (510) 663-4399 or emailing OaklandRPSTF@policylink.org.
The task force is especially interested in suggestions from residents who identify as Black or brown.
Comments can also be made at two virtual listening sessions from 6-7:30 p.m. Feb. 18 at http://bit.ly/communitylistening218 and March 9 at http://bit.ly/communitylistening39.
Before the April 20 City Council meeting, the Oakland Public Safety Committee on April 13 will hear the recommendations of the task force.
