The Monterey County Sheriff’s Office issued an evacuation warning for the Carmel River Lagoon area and Mission Fields on Thursday morning due to stormy weather.
The heavy rain is causing water levels to rapidly rise on the Carmel River, backing up the Carmel Lagoon near Carmel River State Beach and causing flooding to already happen.
The National Weather Service has also issued a flood warning for Carmel River Lagoon and neighboring communities.
Evacuees can get assistance and register for alternative shelter at:
- Toro Park School: 22500 Portola Drive, Salinas,
- Chualar Union Elementary School: 24285 Lincoln St., Chualar
- Carmel Valley Library: 65 W. Carmel Valley Road, Carmel Valley
Residents can check their zone and state of orders by visiting the county’s online evacuation map.
