Second magnitude 3.6 earthquake strikes Bay Area within 24 hours

A magnitude 3.6 earthquake struck early Thursday morning off the shore of San Francisco and Marin County, with people reporting feeling the shaking through much of the North Bay and down the Peninsula, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The quake hit at 5:41 a.m. and was centered in the ocean about 4.5 miles south of Muir Beach and about 10 miles west of San Francisco. It had a depth of about 9 miles.

Another earthquake of the same magnitude hit up in the North Bay near Cobb just before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and a magnitude 2.6 quake struck in San Pablo before 2 a.m. Thursday morning.

No damage was reported as a result of the temblors.
