A man died and another person was wounded in a shooting Monday afternoon in San Leandro, police said.
Officers went to investigate the sound of gunshots at about 4:50 p.m. in the 600 block of East 14th Street, near police headquarters.
Officers found 23-year-old Oakland man Laquan Matthews suffering from multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body. He was taken to a hospital where he died, according to police.
Matthews’ death is the sixth homicide this year in San Leandro, police said.
The other person wounded was not involved in the fight that apparently preceded the shooting. She was taken to a hospital with wounds not considered life-threatening.
Police said the shooting involved multiple guns and about 30 rounds were fired.
Anyone with information that might help solve the homicide is asked to call San Leandro police at (510) 577-2740.
