Driver dies after car strikes tree off I-680 exit

A driver died Saturday morning after his car went off an exit from Interstate Highway 680 in Fremont, the California Highway Patrol said.

The car, a Honda Civic, was exiting onto Mission Boulevard from southbound I-680 about 7:45 a.m. when the car veered off the road and hit a tree, CHP Officer Tyler Hahn said.

The man driving the car died at the scene, according to the CHP. His name was not released.

The crash is under investigation, the CHP said.
