Deputies find Sonoma inmate dead in cell 10 minutes after serving breakfast

A Sonoma County Jail inmate died Tuesday after being found unresponsive in his cell Tuesday morning, according to the county sheriff’s office.

The inmate, whose name hasn’t been released, accepted breakfast in his single-occupancy cell at the Main Adult Detention Facility around 6:20 a.m., but then was found unresponsive in his cell by jail personnel about 10 minutes later, sheriff’s officials said.

Deputies began CPR and the inmate was taken to a hospital, but died there at about 7:20 a.m.

The Marin County coroner’s office will conduct an autopsy, as is standard protocol for Sonoma County in-custody deaths.
