Although San Francisco police have yet to disclose details regarding a Tuesday officer-involved shooting that left a man with critical wounds, a video circulating on social media appears to show the shooting.
Around 5:10 p.m. Tuesday, officers on Market Street between Fourth and Fifth streets went to investigate a report of two men fighting, with one of them allegedly armed with a knife.
That suspect allegedly then brandished the knife at officers and, at some point, the shooting occurred. Also during the altercation, officers used less-lethal weapons and a sheriff’s deputy used a Taser stun gun, police said.
The 26-year-old suspect was ultimately taken to a hospital and remains in life-threatening condition.
A video posted to Instagram a day after the shooting shows officers surrounding the suspect and striking him with what appear to be less-lethal weapons and a gun.
The user who posted the video said in the video’s caption he witnessed the ordeal and confirmed the suspect had a knife in his hand. He also said he never witnessed an officer use a Taser.

Police said they’ve been made aware of the video and have forwarded it to their investigators.
Police said in a statement:
“When viewing this video, we want the public to understand SFPD officers used less lethal options including both the 12-gauge and 40-mm extended range impact weapons which, when deployed, sound like gunfire.”
Police are planning to hold a town hall meeting on the shooting, tentatively set for next Tuesday, where they’ll release more information, as well as body-worn camera footage.
The shooting remains under investigation by the San Francisco District Attorney’s Office Independent Investigations Bureau, the Department of Police Accountability, and the San Francisco Police Department’s Investigative Services Division and Internal Affairs Division.
