A stolen 4-foot tall carved Bigfoot statue was recovered from Highway 9 in Scotts Valley, Calif. on Thursday, November 12, 2020 and returned to the Bigfoot Discovery Museum.
The elusive Bigfoot has been returned to its home in the unincorporated Santa Cruz County community of Felton after disappearing Monday, the Scotts Valley Police Department said.
This Bigfoot is a 4-foot-tall likeness carved from a log that vanished along with a wooden bear statue some time during the late morning or early afternoon from outside the Bigfoot Discovery Museum on state Highway 9 in Felton.
The Santa Cruz County Sheriff’s Office issued an alert asking members of the public to keep their eyes peeled for the statue, weighing an estimated 200 pounds.
It was found by Scotts Valley officers Thursday about 4 miles away in the area of near Glen Canyon and Green Hills roads in Scotts Valley, not far from state Highway 17.
The Scotts Valley Police Department said:
“He was a little banged up but will be returned to his rightful place at the Bigfoot Discovery Museum.”
The museum posted on social media:
“We are delighted to have our statue back. It has been a part of our collection since 2003. Thank you Scotts Valley Police Department!”
The museum, established in 2004 by Michael Rugg, is dedicated to educating and proving the existence of “the famed Sasquatch, an illusive primate that is rumored to wander the Pacific West.”
Admission to the attraction, currently closed due to COVID-19 restrictions, is free.
