Man dies in solo-vehicle crash when car veers across Highway 24

A 57-year-old El Sobrante man died in a solo-vehicle crash on westbound state Highway 24 in Lafayette late Monday afternoon, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash was reported at 4:38 p.m. on westbound Highway 24 east of Pleasant Hill Road.

A 2017 white GMC Sierra was heading west when it veered across all lanes of traffic and up a dirt embankment north of the highway, then struck a metal pole. The driver, whose name is not yet being released, was pronounced dead at the scene, CHP officials said.
