The U.S. Supreme Court has let stand an Alameda County law requiring drug makers to help pay for drug disposal programs.
The San Rafael Police Department is teaming up with the Drug Enforcement Administration to host DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day, police officials announced.
A drop-off site for potentially dangerous, expired, unused and unwanted prescription drugs will be set up at the San Rafael Public Safety Center located at 1375 Fifth Avenue on October 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event is held every year to help community members prevent pill abuse and theft.
The drop-off site will not accept needles or liquids, only pills and patches can be dropped off.
The service is free and anonymous, and individuals must adhere to Covid-19 guidelines and regulations.
Last fall, approximately 883,000 pounds of prescription drugs were turned-in to DEA drop-off sites across the nation; just a fragment of the 6,359 tons of prescription drugs collected since the inception of the initiative in 2010.
Community members can also turn in prescription drugs at year-round drop-off sites, which can be searched via https://bit.ly/3o45V7j.
Several other one-day drop-off locations will be established around the Bay Area. People can search for a location nearest them by visiting the DEA’s program site linked below.
