Police seek witnesses, surveillance in fatal Bayview hit-and-run

Police in San Francisco are seeking the public’s help to identify a suspect and vehicle involved in a hit-and-run that resulted in a fatality early Friday morning.

Authorities said officers responded at 4:51 a.m. to a hit-and-run report at the intersection of Cesar Chavez Street and Evans Avenue. The driver fled and medics pronounced the person dead at the scene.

Police are asking Bayview residents and businesses to check surveillance footage that may have captured images related to the hit-and-run. They are also seeking any witnesses who may have seen the suspect or vehicle.

Jodie Medeiros, executive director of Walk San Francisco, said in a statement that traffic needs to slow down on streets and near highways.

Medeiros said:

“The faster a vehicle is going, the more likely its driver is to cause a traffic crash – and to severely injure or kill the person who is hit. Slower streets are safer streets.”
