Separate fires merge into 11,000-acre Glass Fire, evacuation orders expand in Calistoga

The Glass Fire burning in Napa and Sonoma counties had covered 11,000 acres, is 0 percent contained and was threatening more than 8,500 structures as of Monday morning, according to Cal Fire.

Two other fires started overnight and merged with the Glass Fire, which started early Sunday morning, and flames are expected to continue to spread over the course of Monday. A red flag warning is in effect due to hot and windy weather in the region, Cal Fire officials said.

Cal Fire said the fire is spreading at a “dangerous rate.”

Mandatory evacuation orders were issued across large swaths of the two counties. Some of the recent evacuations early Monday included the city of Calistoga from south of Lincoln Avenue and the east side of Silverado Trail between Taplin and Sage Canyon roads. Evacuation centers have been set up at CrossWalk Community Church at 2590 First St. in Napa, A Place to Play at 2375 W. Third St. in Santa Rosa, the Sonoma-Marin Fairgrounds at 175 Fairgrounds Drive and the Petaluma Veterans Memorial Building at 1094 Petaluma Blvd. S., both in Petaluma, and the Sonoma Raceway at 29355 Arnold Drive.
