Glass Incident evacuations expand as fire grows to 800 acres near St. Helena

Evacuations orders have expanded Sunday morning for residents near St. Helena and Deer Park in Napa County due to a rapidly spreading brushfire, according to Cal Fire.

Cal Fire sent out an alert before 5 a.m. reporting the Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit is at the scene of the Glass Fire, a 20-acre vegetation blaze spreading at a dangerous rate near the 200 block of North Fork Crystal Springs Road in Deer Park. The burn area had grown to 800 acres before 8 a.m.

At 4:38 a.m., the St. Helena Police Department sent out an alert a mandatory evacuation was in place for residents in the area of Deer Park Road to Crystal Springs Road due to the fire.

Evacuations have since been ordered on the Silverado Trail from Larkmead Lane to Deer Park Road, and all of Crystal Springs Road and North Fork Crystal Springs Road.

An evacuation center has been opened at the Crosswalk Community Church in Napa at 2590 First Street. In a Nixle alert, the Napa County Office of Emergency Services reminded individuals to adhere to Covid-19 safety measures including face coverings, good hygiene and physical distancing. Addresses will be verified at the center.

Officials in neighboring Calistoga are advising residents that smoke and flame are visible and the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office is advising residents in those of areas of “Heavy drift smoke and light ash” coming into Sonoma County, but said:

“No threat to our county at this time.”
