Union City launches ‘Why I wear a mask’ youth photo contest

A photography contest following the theme “Why I wear a mask” is launching today in Union City, city officials announced Friday.

The contest, open to residents aged 5 to 20 years old, is aimed to help communicate the importance of wearing a face covering to stop the spread of Covid-19.

Judging the contest will be Don Feria, a freelance editorial and commercial photographer from Union City.

Cash prizes will be given to the top three winners. The first place winner will receive $100, the second-place winner $75 and the third-place winner $50.

The top three contestants will also have their images professionally printed and exposed at the mayor’s annual State of the City Address in October, as well as have their images used in the city’s public service announcements and newsletters during the city’s shelter-in-place.

City officials asks those interested to visit www.unioncity.org/photocontest for more information and to submit entries.
