A Berkeley, Calif. police officer fired her gun while attempting to detain three suspects in a theft at CVS on Shattuck Avenue on Thursday, July 30, 2020. The officer suffered a foot injury and the suspects fled in a dark sedan.
A Berkeley police officer interrupting a theft was injured Thursday night, police said.
The officer was in the area of the CVS Pharmacy at 1451 Shattuck Ave. about 9:15 p.m., when she spotted multiple suspects.
While trying to detain them, she fired her gun, according to a police press release.
It was not known if anyone was hit by gunfire.
The officer was injured in the foot during the incident and was hospitalized for her injury.
Berkeley police spokesman Officer Byron White confirmed Friday that three suspects were involved and no arrests were made. White said the suspects fled in dark sedan, which has not been recovered.
The shooting is being investigated by police, and the officer will be placed on administrative leave, according to police.
