John Lee Cowell was sentenced Friday morning to two consecutive sentences of life in prison for the murder of Nia Wilson and the attempted murder of Letifah Wilson in October 2018 at the MacArthur BART station in Oakland.
Judge Allan Hymer imposed the sentences about 10:30 a.m. at the Rene C. Davidson Courthouse in Oakland following impact statements by Letifah Wilson and among others Nia’s mother Alicia Grayson, who spoke just briefly during the online hearing.
Letifah Wilson said Cowell has shown no remorse for his actions.
She said:
“You are inhuman.”
She said, however, she forgives him for what he did, adding:
“I have to.”
Christina Moore, who served as Cowell’s attorney, said she would be filing an appeal for Cowell.
