Responding to growing Covid-19 hospitalization and test positivity rates, Gov. Gavin Newsom Monday issued strict statewide and county-specific orders that come close to a broad shutdown of most indoor operations.
Effective immediately, all 58 counties must shut down all bars and indoor dining, wineries, movie theaters, indoor entertainment centers, zoos, museums and card rooms.
The state order prohibits even more for counties that have been on the state’s County Monitoring List for three consecutive days. In those specific counties, the state mandates the following industries and activities to cease unless operations can be moved outdoors:
According to state’s county data monitoring site Monday afternoon, Bay Area counties on the watchlist for three or more days currently include Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, Solano and Sonoma. Alameda County was placed on the monitoring list Sunday and could be subject to new state-imposed restrictions as early as Wednesday.
The state’s 14-day Covid-19 test positivity rate average reached 7.4 percent Monday, according to California Department of Public Health data.
