Vallejo man not wearing seatbelt ejects from vehicle in fatal highway crash

A 29-year-old man died in a solo-vehicle crash off of westbound Interstate Highway 80 in Vallejo early Sunday morning, according to the California Highway Patrol.

Officers responded at 2:29 a.m. Sunday to the crash reported at the Benicia Road off-ramp from the highway’s westbound lanes and found a 2015 Cadillac CTS down an embankment, CHP officials said.

The Cadillac driver, identified by the Solano County coroner’s office as Vallejo resident Jose Valdez, was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the vehicle. He suffered fatal injuries in the crash, according to the CHP.

Investigators said impairment is a possible factor in the crash.
