Magnitude 4.0 earthquake shakes The Geysers area after dozen small quakes over past day

A magnitude 4.0 earthquake rattled the area near The Geysers geothermal power generating plant north of Santa Rosa in Sonoma County at 9:14 a.m. Sunday and was felt as far away as San Francisco, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The quake had a depth of .7 km.

There have been more than a dozen very small earthquakes in the same area over the course of the past 24 hours, with the second largest registering at a magnitude 1.7.
